Despite the popularity of the vintage, we've managed to pick up a few of Davide's sought after 2004s. This, as he keeps reminding me, is no 'ordinary' Barolo, for amongst their Serralunga vineyards used in this blend is one Costa Bella; a tiny strip of vineyard on the way into Baudana, Serralunga, planted a long time ago and now producing tiny clusters of Nebbiolo that bear more than a passing resemblance to a Richebourg...he wishes! But as part of the blend, it adds a profundity and lushness, making this benchmark, Vosne-esque Barolo great to drink even now, but best left till 2011. Beef would be best.
