Phillipe Chaume Arnuad, despite his rugby-playing past, actually makes wines of
incredible elegance and finesse, the Syrah element of the blend in perfect
counter-point to both the Grenache and the Mourvèdre. The latter does
not always ripen up here, but when it does, as in the superlative 2007 vintage,
it adds an extra degree of complextiy to an already impressively complex
blend. The wine has piercing aromatics of violets and dark fruit, then black
fruit, crushed rock and hedgerow flavours, firm acidity and impressively silky
tannins.
