High up in the hills of the Var region of Provence, Domaine de Triennes was
founded in 1990 by Burgundian eminences grises Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac
and Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti together their
Parisien friend Michel Macaux. The name comes from the Triennia, Roman
festivities that took place every three years. The old-vine Viognier is a
particular success at Triennes; its vinification in stainless steel at
relatively low temperatures belies the power of the wine, its honeysuckle
aromas evocative and persistent, its palate rich and long, with peach and
apricot fruit.
