The Côtes du Rhône Villages appellation in the southern Rhône
continues to grow like topsy with more and more villages, including this hilly
enclave — not really a village at all — appending their name. A
good thing as quality as well as prices have crept up and this hearty, earthy,
spicy and rather unusual syrah, grenache and mourvèdre- based
rhône red, from a grand southern rhône vintage, brings you plenty
of herby, violet-scented fruit.

The eponymous stony sandy soils, some of them consisting of startling pink
flintstone, are located in the hilly Massif d’Uchaux region, one of the
latest enclaves ( not strictly speaking a village) to have been promoted to a
Côtes Du Rhône Villages Appellation. Syrah, Grenache and
Mourvèdre, in equal proportions, all equally important in the ensemble,
which impresses for its generous weight of dark fruit, its very ripe but
integrated tannins and its refreshing finish.
