Fourth generation vigneron Jean-Paul Dubost (pronounced ‘Dubo’ locally) took over running the estate in 1993 after the sudden accidental death of his father; he has continued his work with great aplomb. The speciality here is their Brouilly, which comes from 75 year old vines, not far from the winery located at Le Tracot, near the village of Lantignié.
The individual ‘crus’ of the Beaujolais deserve much greater respect than the region as a whole has been receiving in recent years, thanks to the backlash against the horrors of the annual Nouveau campaign. Districts such as Brouilly, with its undulating slopes on granite and red sandstone, can produce much more substantial wines of much greater backbone and capacity to age.
