Jean-Yves Devevey is one of the unsung heroes of Burgundy. He has put together a compact domaine of both red and white vineyards supplemented with some purchased grapes. A recent addition to the domaine is a small holding of village Volnay, very well situated just below the premier cru vineyards.
Volnay make some of Burgundy’s most stylish wines. There is relatively little clay in the soil and a high percentage of active limestone, which profile delivers pure wines lighter in body than neighbouring Pommard and with notably refined fruit flavours. Jean-Yves’ version has been aged in oak for 15 months before bottling.
2007 is one of the earliest vintages on record, favouring the Côte de Beaune as much as the Côte de Nuits. The wines are mostly designed for drinking in the near to medium term.
