2000 Banyuls, Cuvée Joseph Géraud, Domaine Piétri-Géraud
(code: 73400B)
The charming Laetitia Piétri makes excellent wines in both Collioure and
Banyuls; the latter is made from 90 % Grenache Noir and 10 % Carignan. The
majority of the wine is aged in large oak vats, with a small amount undergoing
a Solera maturation. The result is rich and raisined, with bitter chocolate,
brown sugar, dried fruits and very very ripe red berry flavours all evidenced.
A real taste of the deep south - and a worthy alternative to Port.
