The wines of Ch. de Puligny-Montrachet have improved massively in quality since Etienne de Montille took over. His 2007s have a fabulous concentration that complements the characteristic vintage poise and purity. This is a great Bourgogne Blanc and it’s definitely in my top 5. It offers lots of citrus fruit and has a slightly oily mouth feel, a medium to long finish and good current drinking. However give it another 6 months and I think it will show its true colours.

While every winery in Bordeaux is a Château, Burgundy can only boast one in each village, except where there is a fight for precedence. It should denote one of the best producers in the village, and since Etienne de Montille has been in charge of the Château de Puligny-Montrachet (from 2002) there has been a notable improvement here.
Much of the park in front of the château itself was converted into vines by a previous owner to make today’s ‘Clos du Château’ which only qualifies officially as Bourgogne Blanc , albeit with a hint of Puligny in style. The vines are farmed organically and are fermented and matured in large barrels to avoid undue oak influence.
2007 is a beautiful vintage for white Burgundy in a fine crisp style
