Berrys' Crusted Port Bottled 2003
A peculiarly British affair, Crusted Port is, at heart, a vintage port, or, to be more precise, a multi-vintage port. In the way that Krug or Grand Siècle Champagne are the products of three different vintages, Crusted is an amalgam of three vintages, in this case, 98, 99 and 2000, bottled just two years after the last harvest of the trio.Thereafter it behaves entirely like a vintage, its evocative name, of course referring to the likelihood that it will throw a sediment after a year or so. The wine has rich red and black berry flavours, a spicy backdrop and a very finely balanced sweetness that comes from a very fine integration of the spirit.
