From the premium vineyards of Alto Agrelo (Alto indeed at a mere 980 metres,
the snow-capped Andes in sight) in the fashionable Lujan de Cujo enclave of
Mendoza, Pulenta's take on Pinot Gris, and an extremely impressive one it is
too. An almost Alsatian richness greets the nose, with peach, flint and smoky
bacon all evidenced. The palate has all the viscosity and texture that one so
often relishes in the best examples from this variety, with plenty of New World
richness, but fine definition born out of both the impressive altitude of the
vineyard and the careful winemaking; flowers, fruit and a hint of natural
sweetness complete the picture.
