Philip and Anne Nolan were originally farmers, taking over the family business started by their grandfather, an Irish immigrant who bought land in 1909. They farmed sheep and crops but always had a keen interest in wine, so in 1995 planted vines in a particularly well-sited corner of their estate. The grapes were mostly sold to some of the large producers in the area for inclusion in their blends, but in 2006 the family decided to bottle their best wine under their own label.
Cabernet Sauvignon came first, with Chardonnay following a year later. Wrattonbully is renowned as a relatively cool-climate enclave within South Australia, producing wines of elegance and subtlety but still with that unmistakable Australian ripeness and exuberance. The business is now largely in the capable hands of Philip and Anne’s two daughters , Susie, who looks after the viticulture and winemaking, and Amelia, who lives in London from where she handles the marketing and sales side.

An excellent hand-reared, family made Australian Cab. Sauvignon; nothing added or taken away. The country's reputation for making top Cabernet has suffered at the hands of the corporate brands over the past 30 years, so it's great to see a single-estate example shows what's possible.
Deep purple in colour, the nose brims with bright creamy black fruit, fresh ripe cassis & a hint of eucalypt & spice; suave black plum & cassis flavours swell the palate, supported by the most elegant & detailed of structures. Delicious with lunch or supper, a great partner with spicy sausages or rack of lamb.
