There appears to be little discernible link, conceptually or otherwise between
Christian Mocci’s Roi Patriote, one of our big hits of 2009, and his
Cuvée Venus’ Both names and labels are certainly
attention-grabbing, but should not in any way undermine the skill of the
vigneron. One can only presume that the Roi assumes regality because the blend
is Bordelais (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot) whereas Venus is so-named because
the wine is more of a classic warming Mediterranean blend, half each of Syrah
and Grenache in this case.
The wine has a deep sensuous colour, and a come-hither nose of spice and fresh red fruits. On the palate the tannins are silky and elegant, and there is a poised and harmonious balance between hints of Mediterranean garrigue and the sweet and seductive fruit. Hard to resist….!
