2004 is now seen, qualitatively, in the same light as the astonishing 2001
vintage. A tardy growing season produced grapes with very ripe tannins and
impressive levels of sugar. The resulting wines are full-bodied, yet
wonderfully rounded. The blend is 80% Tempranillo, 5% Garnacha and 15%
Graciano, fermented in stainless steel and matured in a combination of French
and American oak. The wine displays notes of strawberry fruit, with a balsamic
backdrop, then soft and supple tannins; all in all this is a classic Contino;
at the same time gloriously uncomplicated and yet wonderfully complex!
