Stéphane Ogier has recently acquired just over a hectare in the
prestigious Condrieu appellation, and this is his first vintage. Be that as it
may, the vineyard is well located and the vines are mature, so, given
Stéphane’s incredible talent, it should come as no great surprise
that this wine has been made with considerable aplomb and skill, capturing the
quality of the vintage certainly, but also the somewhat evasive charm of the
finest Viognier; that is to say richly viscous, with hints of tropical fruit
and dried apricot, but with a finely structured palate that is precise and
long. Perfect with terrine, foie gras even!

Is it worth paying for Condrieu when there is so much good, cheaper Viogner
available from elsewhere? When it's as good as this elegant white, it is
certainly is.
