2007 Côtes du Rhône, Les Cranilles, Les Vins De Vienne

The three musketeers, Messrs Villard, Gaillard and Cuilleron go from strength to strength, individually and collectively, in the latter case using the name of Les Vins De Vienne. From equal shares of Syrah and Grenache, the Cranilles is textbook Côtes du Rhône, packed with spice, pepper and lots of ripe black fruit and betraying all of the splendour and dexterity of this very fine vintage. . Delicious with hearty Mediterranean cuisine or a late winter casserole!

A beautifully ripe, black fruity Rhône blend but with the distinct refreshing mint and eucalyptus tang of a top Aussie shiraz. This wine is a crowd-pleasing, soft but multi-faceted red with aromas of liquorice and vanilla. As good on its own as it is with food.
