2005 Brunello di Montalcino, Campi di Fonterenza, Tuscany
Le gemelle, the twins, Francesca and Margherita have carved out a more than decent wine from a tricky vintage, salvaging only enough fruit to fill 3 tonneaux (1800 cases). Notes of chicory, hay, coffee complement the true vintage expressions of cherry stone; all the while being delicate and agile, reflecting their organic approach in the vineyard.

This finesse is echoed on the palate with a floral , feminine expression of tight red berried Sangiovese. Nothing macho, muscular or in anyway manufactured here, just a constant jig of flavours and highlights, driven with pace and purity. Still young, drinking up to 2016 and beyond I bet you.

Macerated for 90 days and aged for four years in 500- litre barrels. Bottled in Aug 2009. Very very dark purple. Heady perfume and completely mouthfilling. It floods in with lavish fruit, broad and sweeping and thrillingly alive. A Viennese waltz.
