As with the 2006, the Echezeaux shows unexpected poise that puts it in the same class as its more famous grand cru siblings. The weight of fruit has swallowed up the oak (80% new barrels) effortlessly.
An exciting domaine led by Frédéric Engerer of Ch. Latour. A surprisingly warm, open nose greets you with brambly spice, red currant and slight touch of barnyard aromas. The palate offers a more linear red fruit character with charming flavours of sandalwood and allspice on the finish. This Grand Cru is almost ready to drink, I would give it another couple of years to come into its own then enjoy with some venison carpaccio. Drinking 2011-2015+.

As good as the Brûlées is the Echézeaux is notably more complex with its beautiful nose of cool, pure and airy purple fruit, primarily plum, and spice elements that includes anise and clove that can also be found on the mineral suffused, lacy and energetic flavors that possess excellent underlying material on the firmly structured, linear and persistent finish. A wine of harmony as the supporting tannins are dense but fine.
