Red Wine Of The
Vintage
For me, Vougeraie's top reds are the best I have known them and the Bonnes-Mares is very impressive and very classy indeed. It has a sense of real energy, concentration and density, with explosive and persistent blackberry fruit and a sensuous, silky texture to the tannins. This is a wine of power and finesse.

Alas, there is a very limited volume this year of this fabulous Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru. Sweet fruit with a touch of cherry soars across the palate with just a hint of woodsmoke. It is fine and fresh with good weight on the finish.

The intense and reserved nose of subtle wood spice combines with red pinot and
black currant notes plus almost pungent warm earth nuances that continue onto
the big, robust and sleekly muscled full-bodied flavors that are linear and
more obviously structured on the cool, fine and pure finish. La Vougeraie's
Bonnes-Mares is a really lovely combination of power with a certain amount of
finesse but don't let the elegance fool you as ample patience will be
required.

30% whole bunches. 80% new oak. Dark crimson. Coffee notes and a bit of spice.
Juicy and very round. Very ambitious. Some real charm. Certainly intense...
