For over 20 years Frog’s Leap have been making classically structured Cabernets from their base on the Rutherford Bench in the Napa Valley and the 2007 falls stylistically into that same mould. The wine is actually only 88% Cabernet Sauvignon with 10% Cabernet Franc and 2% Merlot. The nose is pure cassis with hints of cigar box and a whiff of vanilla from the new oak. The palate is dry, packed with dense, tightly-knit flavours of black fruit and finishes well-balanced with a fresh, cleansing acidity and ripe tannins.

This wine would put many French Bordeaux wines to shame - beautiful on the palate with svelte plush fruit, polished oak and a fine structured finish. I'd love this with lamb. Layered, classy, and with a respectable 13.5 per cent alcohol. Great wine.
