The Drouhins have a light touch with their wine-making, the aim being to privilege the fruit in the wine, and to this end bottling is earlier than for most producers. They source their own wood for leading cooper François Frères to turn into barrels, though little new wood is used during maturation. The Drouhins particularly like the appellation of Chorey-lès-Beaune, the first village to the north of Beaune itself, as a source of attractive, inexpensive Burgundian pinot.
The wine is attractive, medium deep, bright red colour with really attractive upfront fruit on the nose. Lovely dark cherry fruit infuses the glass, while the palate has just enough tannic structure to hold this wine together for three or four years.
