2008 Côte-Rôtie, Champin le Seigneur, Domaine Jean-Michel Gerin
Most Exciting Wine of The Vintage
A classic cuvée containing 10% Viognier, this is an elegant wine with some mineral, coal ash and meaty notes coming through its infused oak shell. Viognier, adding softness and approachability, makes this fine and well-born Côte-Rôtie; a perfect wine to drink between 2012 and 2016.
(Francis Huicq, London Shop Senior Sales)

Gerin is seen as one of the great winemakers of Côte-Rôtie and this cuvée makes it clear why; Champin le Seigneur is a careful assemblage from the Côtes Blonde and Brune, including 10% Viognier, and displays both power and purity as notes bacon rind and tapenade give way to a core of rich dark fruit. Superb!
