Most Exciting Wine of The
Vintage
The winemaking talent of Jean Louis-Chave is without question. His own Domaine red and white Hermiatges rank amongst the world's greatest wines. They are highly sought after, but the quantity is tiny, and prices correspondingly high. However, there is much better availability of the wines which are part of his negociant label. He is devoting more of his time and skills to the producing these wines, and they are now definitely opportunities to take advantage of. They offer superb quality at very good prices. His St Joseph Offerus comes from the very best, steeply sloping and rocky vineyards in the heart of the appellation. St Joseph can be rather light and simple, but this has tremendous density and concentration with a nice touch of peppery Syrah spice, and a fine tannic structure to suggest it will cellar well up to 2015 or a little beyond. It would be hard to find better value for good northern Rhone Syrah.

An impressive offering in 2008, the Offerus is sourced from vines on steep, precipitous slopes. Deep of colour, the wine boasts dense black fruit, plenty of mineral peppery grip and a fine, lingering finish.
