When a great producer takes an underperforming estate by the scruff of the neck the results can be fascinating, and, in this instance certainly, hugely successful . The Brunier family made their name at Domaine Du Vieux Télégraphe, one of the greatest names in Châteauneuf -du-Pape, and have now restored this famous Gigondas Estate to its former glory, this time in a joint venture with American importer Kermit Lynch.
Made from 85% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 5% Clairette, this wine has a wonderful freshness combined with notes of heather, peat and iodine… this is no Whisky however! The dark, brooding plummy fruit and fine velvety tannins bring us back to the Rhône and keep us there through to the satisfying finish.
