Stéphane came relatively late to the delights that are Viognier and
Condrieu, purchasing vines in and just outside the appellation in question. The
‘Rosine’, self-evidently, is made up of the fruits of the former,
and demonstrates the sureness of touch that we have come to expect from
Stéphane with his red wines.
Viognier is a difficult grape to manage at harvest – pick too early and the wine can be surprisingly vegetal, too late and it will quickly become flabby.. These grapes were clearly picked at the perfect moment; the fruit is soft but eloquent, gently persuasive and charming, with benchmark flavours and aromas of apricot, peach and honeysuckle.
