2008 Condrieu, Domaine Christophe Pichon
Christophe and Isabelle Pichon, apart from the small matter of bringing up six children, also farm 10 hectares spread over the appellations of Côte Rôtie, Condrieu and St Joseph. Nearly 4 hectares of this are in Condrieu, to the South of the appellation, in the commune of Chavanay. The wine is 75% fermented in stainless steel, the balance in barrels of one to five years of age; the 2008 is very successful, with delicious and attractive honeysuckle aromas and a palate that is pure peaches and cream. Textured and rich though it may be, it is still firmly structured and has a satisfying and refreshing finish.

A fresh and elegant Condrieu exuding orange blossom; spring flowers and mineral, spicy notes of cumin & black pepper. Some discreet peachy, apricot nuance the background. The palate is dry, tightly structured with a clean, mineral feel. Notes of fennel, spring onion & spices come through, as well as some stony fruits towards the finish. Promising!
