2009 Fleurie, Domaine Julien Sunier
Julien’s plot is at the top of the La Madone hill, just behind the chapel, nicely protected from the elements by dry stone walls. The site has never been polluted by chemicals, so has impressive biodiversity. This has the glorious floral character of Fleurie, especially redolent of alpine strawberries. It is exceptionally persistent in the mouth and should age very well, if you can resist drinking it early.

Healthy crimson. This wine has withstood the sulphur-free journey better than the straight Beaujolais and suggests there really is something worth paying for here. Slightly candied note though.
