2009 Berrys' Extra Ordinary Red Burgundy Maison Roche de Bellene
Once upon a time Berrys offered both an own label basic red Burgundy and a reserve version, but it soon became clear that there is no point in going for the cheap option when it comes to pinot noir. Five years ago the idea of an Extra-Ordinary Red Burgundy, Bourgogne Rouge plus if you like, was born.

It was not difficult to decide on the producer – Nicolas Potel, now in the guise of his Maison Roche de Bellene, blends for us a splendid cuvée which always includes some wine from grander appellations to round it out.

Not that the succulent 2009 vintage needed much rounding out! Instead the trick was to blend a Bourgogne pinot noir with fruit and charm while maintaining an impeccable lightness of touch.
(Jasper Morris MW, BBR Buyer)

Roche de Bellene has blended this fabulous Pinot Noir to our specifications and has included wines from grander appellations for extra intensity of flavour. It exhibits pretty raspberry aromas with top notes of vanilla, while the palate offers a cornucopia of perfumed raspberries, strawberries and cherries. Depth of flavour, great poise and a lingering finish denote the quality of this wine. Superb with a wide range of red meat and poultry.
(Alun Griffiths MW, BBR Wine Director)
