Caol Ila distillery is to be found near Port Askaig facing across the sound of Islay to neighbouring Jura. The whisky is very well respected for both its distinctive smoky Islay style and elegant fruity balance.
This expression gives subtle yellow fruit skin aromas with outcrops of linseed and polished leather, Balkan sobranie tobacco and brine. The palate is unctuous, again fruity, (apple crumble), and manifests a peaty, oaky structure. A fine old Caol Ila, this finishes with a savoury, briny appeal.
