Aultmore whisky distillery, founded in 1896, lies to the north of Keith in Banffshire. The name is gaelic for "Great Burn", a reference to the Auchinderran burn which provides some of the distillery's water. In its early years, Aultmore produced sporadically although it has long been classed as a top blending malt.
The nose of the 1982 single malt offers fruity resinous, burnt grass notes with some spice showing. The palate has some buttery and toasty notes, building well to deliver malty, creamy texture and yellow fruit skins. Some smokiness becomes evident. The finish gives lingering sweetness cut by spice.
