2004 Red, drink-or-keep
Ch. Rousselle, Côtes de Bourg -- Château Rouselle -- France
Cab.Sauvignon Blend, 13% alc.
Very much a modern-style Claret, produced organically with the emphasis on achieving excellent ripeness of fruit and thus producing a wine of true Bordeaux character which is ready to drink young. Fleshy, supple and easy to drink, this wine shows delicious red fruit on the palate with a gorgeous silky, ripe finish. Delicious with lamb and lighter game dishes such as guinea fowl.

Riesling, Cru Belzbrunnen, Domaine Dirler-Cadé -- Domaine Dirler-Cadé -- France
Riesling, 12.5% alc.
From its prime location, between two Grand Crus, the Belzbrunnen vineyard yields consistently excellent and intense Rielsing wines, oozing with lime flavours, and framed by mineral and floral overtones. A wonderful aperitif  and a great accompaniment to poached fish and shellfish.

Chianti Il Cavaliere, Grati -- Grati -- Italy
Sangiovese, 12.5% alc.
Compared to the denser, chewier 2006 vintage, 2005 is more perfumed, with pretty herbal & crunchy red berried notes; while the light/medium bodied palate is delightfully brisk, with red cherry stone juiciness, a preppy purity, impressive balance & a degree of satisfaction which punches above its lowly 'Chianti' appellation. A great anytime wine, especially with tomato-based antipasti. Yum.

Smith & Hooper Cabernet/Merlot, Wrattonbully, S. Australia -- Yalumba -- Australia
Cab.Sauvignon Blend, 14.5% alc.
“Not as well-known as Coonawarra, twenty minutes drive to its south but much prettier; the elevated, undulating terroir giving the fruit a nice lift. Nor is the region as populated. For me though Wrattonbully has the potential, as here, of producing benchmark Australian Cabernets without the need to cross-border blend. The wine is deep magenta in colour, the nose suggests briary fruit, rich Cabernet cassis and earthy spice, courtesy of 18 months ageing in 80% French 20% American oak barrels. Ripe red plum, black berry fruits, liquorice and clove flavours delight the palate of this easy drinking wine…perfect with barbeque ribs.”

Nolan Chardonnay, Wrattonbully, S. Australia(Stelvin) -- Nolan -- Australia
Chardonnay, 13.5% alc.
"This is the first vintage of Nolan's estate Chardonnay, a pretty wine from the cool Limestone Coast zone of Wrattonbully with its loam over lime and ironstone soils. Its pure, fresh fruit salad aromas and flavours have been captured by a shading canopy, harvesting at night and by using only 10% french oak ageing for 9 months, while lees stirring and a malolactic fermentation gives a lush, nougat-like mouthfeel. A great debut and perfect for anytime...especially with best friends." (David Berry Green, BBR Buyer)

Ara, Composite Pinot Noir, Marlborough, New Zealand (stelvin) -- Winegrowers of Ara -- New Zealand
Pinot Noir, 13% alc.
While we've come to expect top Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, the same level of quality of Pinot Noir from this region is only just emerging. Part of the reason can be traced to the sparkling wine industry & the lack of suitably good clones for still wine production. A fine fruitier alternative to the more minerally Burgundy examples. Cherry red in colour, the nose sings with fresh, clean, composed raspberry & mineral aromas, while the palate shows a delicious weave of spicy, fruit-sweet berry savouriness supported by a fine structure. An excellent introduction to fine Pinot Noir. Partner with salmon steak, chicken or tuna.
