2011 Waterford Chardonnay, Stellenbosch, South Africa

Production is small and demand high for this outstanding Chardonnay so we are delighted to have secured an allocation of the 2011, recently bottled. The grapes were fermented in barrel and then aged for 6 months in 100% new French oak, and yet such is the concentration of fruit that the wine readily absorbs the flavours of wood.
 
The bouquet shows ripe, tropical fruit notes with lime blossom; on the palate there are flavours of stone fruit, particularly white peach and Mirabelle plum, and then the whole finishes with crisp, balancing acidity. A really impressive example of New World Chardonnay and one of the best in South Africa.
