2010 Berrys' Argentina Malbec, Pulenta, Mendoza
|
|
Farmed at nearly 900 metres in the Alto Agrelo enclave of Mendoza and fed by drip irrigation from the Andes, these grapes, from the 2011 harvest, are very fine indeed, with a deep, energetic colour so typical of Argentinian Malbec and wonderfully complex flavours dominated by cherry, plum and raspberry, with gentle hints of wood smoke, raisins and tobacco at the back of the mouth in the name of structural harmony.
The blend is similar to but not exactly the same as the generic La Flor Malbec, but both wines have been vinified in the same way, enjoying six months in French barrique after a full malolactic fermentation. All in all a most worthy addition to the BOS range.
This is an outstanding example of Argentina's signature grape variety, a worthy match for the barbecue and indeed any meal which involves the finest cuts of red meat.

Celebrate World Malbec Day this Tuesday (17th April) with an exceptional bottle produced for Berry Bros & Rudd by the esteemed Pulenta Estate made with grapes grown at 900m above sea level on the edge of the Andes. Initially ripe and fruity, but with crisp acidity, developing into a fantastic long finish in which the brambly, peppery flavours linger long on the palate. Crying out for a chargrilled steak or cut of venison.
