Sauv.Blanc & Sémillon, 13.5% alc.
A glorious nose of marmalade with just a hint of smokiness leaps from the glass. The palate is equally enticing and has just the right level of viscocity. A light to medium bodied Sauternes from a legendary vintage, this wine offers ripe botrytis and oranges galore. At this quality and price, I defy you not to drink it now, and lots of it!

Berrys' William Pickering, 20-year-old Tawny Port -- Quinta do Noval -- Portugal
Port Blend, 20.5% alc.
Blended especially for BBR and matured in oak for 20 years, the sweetness in this fine mellow Port is beautifully balanced by the richness of the fruit and the maturity from the wood; rich and nutty, it would be heavenly with chocolate-based desserts.

The ownership of AXA, contrary to initial fears, has helped to return Noval to the very top echelons of Port production. The usual ingredients of inspired leadership (courtesy of Christian Seely), generous investment and very fine raw materials have all played their part. Beyond the celebrated single vineyard, and its legendary Noval Nacional ( the 1931 is especially good I gather), the Bodega is particularly praised for its Late Bottled Vintage and Aged Tawny wines, both, not entirely coincidentally, bottled for Berry Bros under our own label.

Other Varieties, 18.5% alc.
The House of Lustau is one of the greatest names in Sherry, and it pioneered a system of working closely with the smaller producers, known as Almacenistas, who blend and age sherries of great individuality. Long-term partnerships of this nature have resulted in a range peerless in its diversity and quality.

The Amontillado Estilo has been especially blended for us by one of these merchants and aged in Solera for several years to achieve a unique depth of flavour and richness of texture. An Amontillado is essentially and aged Fino, that is to say it maintains the tangy delicacy of the Flor-matured Fino, but then has been, over time, deliberately oxidised to add nutty complexity and an extraordinary depth of flavour to its yeasty core.

Hugely under-rated, sherry is one of the great drinks of the world; the Estilo is a more than worthy ambassador for the category.
