Berrys' Own New World Selection
A quartet of four grapes (Merlot, Shiraz, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc) from Berrys' Own Label Selection make up this mixed case. These single varietal wines (3 bottles each) are the signature expression of some of the best-known New World terroirs (Maipo in Chile, Barossa  in Australia, Monterey and Nelson in N. Zealand respectively).

Berrys' Australian Chardonnay, Elderton (Stelvin) -- Elderton -- Australia
Chardonnay, 11.5% alc.
Ripe pear and melon flavours clearly point to the New World, yet crystal clear lemon freshness is the result of accomplished Aussie winemaking.

Berrys' Chilean Merlot, Doña Javiera Estate, Maipo Valley -- Doña Javiera Estate -- Chile
Merlot, 13.5% alc.
Chile has won many friends with its plump, ripe, supple reds. This delicious example comes from the Doña Javiera Estate which only produces wines using hand-harvested fruit from its own vineyards.

Berrys' Australian Shiraz, Barossa Valley (Stelvin) -- Elderton -- Australia
Syrah/Shiraz, 14% alc.
This big wine with juicy black fruit is laced with leathery spice, thanks to an open-top fermentation and old oak élévage. This is made in a classic Australian style and, not surprisingly, is a great barbecue wine

Berrys' New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc Seifried, Nelson (Stelvin) -- Seifried -- New Zealand
Sauvignon Blanc, 13.5% alc.
In 1973 Austrian-born Hermann Seifried and his New Zealand wife Agnes bought land in the Moutere Valley between Nelson and Motueka with the intention of planting strawberries. Fortunately, they planted vines instead. Their first harvest was in 1976. Seifried Estate now consists of 80 hectares of vineyards in the Nelson region, three vineyard sites each planted to different grape varieties according to the soil and climate of the particular site. Chris Siefried is in charge of winemaking, assisted by his sister Heidi.

Not only was Seifried one of the very first operational wineries in the South Island, it has also now become the first in Nelson to be accredited to the Sustainable Winegrowing New Zealand programme.
(Jasper Morris MW, BBR Buyer)
