Spanish self-confidence abounds: from last year’s sporting triumphs in the European Championships and at Wimbledon, to the architectural flamboyance of the Bilbao Guggenheim and the cultural achievements of Almavodar… Spain is on a high. This is wonderfully illustrated by the diversity and quality of wines that it now produces, from the classic traditional Riojas, through to the great names of Ribera del Duero and Priorat and, of course, the new and exciting enclaves such as Cigales, Rueda, Monsant, Alicante and Toro. Add an impressive and eclectic selection from Portugal and one has indeed a tasting to savour and treasure.
