Pouilly-Fuissé, Clos des Quarts, Olivier Merlin
--
Olivier Merlin
-- France
Chardonnay,
13% alc.
The 2006 Pouilly-Fuissé Clos des Quarts is graceful and harmonious, even
though it is the richest of Olivier's Pouilly-Fuissé cuvées.
There is no loss of elegance in the rounded and perfumed palate which is
redolent of ripe pears. It will stand up well to spicy oriental cuisine, as
well as more classic fish or chicken matches. This is a delicious wine for the
medium term, showing just how good Maconnais wines can be in the hands of
Merlin the magician.

Pinot Blanc, Barriques, Domaine Ostertag
--
Domaine André Ostertag
-- France
Pinot Blanc,
13% alc.
A fascinating blend of Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc and even some Pinot Noir a jus
blanc, finely-tuned in this top vintage with the aid of 10% new barriques,
adding weave as well as complexity. Delicious, especially with smoked trout.
(David Berry Green, BBR Buyer)
"Barrel-fermented and then left for nine months in oak, this pinot blanc has a
creamy texture and a buoyancy that comes into its own with food. It's
reminiscent of white peach, just-baked pear tarts and mandarins. Drink with
with salmon teriyaki with noodles..."

Grüner Veltliner, Freie Weingarten
--
Freie Weingarten Wachau
-- Austria
Grüner Veltliner,
12% alc.
Frighteningly fashionable on the London restaurant scene, Gruner Veltliner
(known in some circles as Gruvy) shows here its full worth and inherent
complexity. This Gruner Veltliner had an attractive aromatic nose, with notes
of white pepper, Spring flowers and pear skin to the fore. The palate maintains
the spicy theme, with crisp acidity to balance the generous texture and a
satisfying gently piquant finish. An ideal aperitif, the wine has also
sufficient weight to match salads and white meat; try with sea bass or even
turbot.

Nebbiolo d'Alba, Valmaggiore, Sandrone
--
Luciano Sandrone
-- Italy
Nebbiolo,
13.5% alc.
"From a single-vineyard sandy site in 'Valmaggiore', north of Alba, this
beautifully perfumed, strawberry rich 100% Nebbiolo displays all the suave,
finely crafted fruit we've come to expect from Luciano Sandrone; aged for
approx 10 months in large french tonneau to capture the maximum fruit
expression."

Frog's Leap Zinfandel, Napa Valley
--
Frog's Leap
-- United States
Zinfandel,
14% alc.
"A very playful version of Zinfandel. Very lively and complete. Really well
made. Juicy. So well done!"
(Jancis Robinson MW, jancisrobinson.com - Nov 08)
Frog's Leap Zifandel is a benchmark expression of the grape; intense
aromas of wild berry and fresh fruit are punctuated by spices (cloves,
cinnamon, white pepper). Lush layers of cherry and boysenberry fill the palate,
while the nuances of oak and earth never overwhelm. The soft tannins and plush
texture complete a Zin that is both rich and quaffable. This wine has always
been the chameleon of the table, so try it with anything. It is sure to
please.

Isabel Estate Pinot Noir, Marlborough, NZ
--
Isabel Estate
-- New Zealand
Pinot Noir,
13.5% alc.
Such was the success of the vintage that Mike Tiller's Pinot Noir displays dark
plum skin, almost black gateau richness on the nose, as well as a level of
detail and spicy complexity that comes from having nine different Pinot clones
in the vineyard. The palate follows, being lush & voluptuous, tamed by 10
months in 20% new french oak. Alluring in its youth the wine will drink for a
further 5 years yet.
