With its vibrant, fresh fruit and round, oaky nose this exciting wine will certainly wet your taste buds in 2007. Punching well above its weight, it displays ripe, mouth-watering fruit and a delightful freshness that just makes you want to take another sip. This will be a lovely wine to quaff in its youth and is a beautiful example of a classic white Graves.

Bourgogne Blanc, Patrice Rion -- Patrice et Michèle Rion -- France
Chardonnay, 12.5% alc.
Patrice Rion buys in grapes from two biodynamic producers, Didier Montchovet and Jean-Claude Rateau. The juice is fermented in large oak barrels before bottling with screwcap closures. Clear, bright and fresh fruit is evident from the start and there is impressive weight for a basic Bourgogne Blanc. This certainly delivers.

This fresh white from the south of France is a perfect match for fish and seafood. It's crisp ,fruity, minerally ,
nicely textured and full of taste.

Ribolla Gialla DOC, Colli Orientali del Friuli, Canus -- Canus -- Italy
Ribolla Gialla, 12.5% alc.
Less well-known even than (Tocai) Friulano, Friuli's Ribolla Gialla is a mysterious cove; the nose a rich if reserved cocktail of herbal citrus fruit. The medium bodied palate is relatively austere, characterised by thick-skinned lemon peel and of stony minerality, of significant power, especially on the dry finish. A remarkable wine, especially for the cognoscenti, and preferably alongside fowl.

Qupé Marsanne, Santa Ynez Valley, California -- Qupé -- United States
Marsanne, 13% alc.
Despite initially looking like a washout, the vintage was saved by sporadic heat waves and the result (oddly!) is a terrifically balanced wine. Qupe are veterans (by US standards) at Marsanne growing, as they have been doing so since 1987. This wine has floral hints as well as more prominent honey and citrus. There is an excellent minerality running through it that suggests this will age well. The winemaker believes this will go for up to 20 years!

Chardonnay, 13% alc.
As you might expect from this cooler Australian outpost, where irrigation is definitely not required, the nose is beautifully fresh with comice pear and an almost Chablis-esque stoniness; the palate’s juicy, leesy, moreishly elegant with delicate stony citrus flavours. A terrific wine which balances pure fruit & minerality perfectly, confidently sealed with a screwcap. Excellent with smoked haddock. (David Berry Green-BBR Buyer)
