2007	Le Caillou Blanc de Ch. Talbot Bordeaux -- Château Talbot -- France Sauv.Blanc & Sémillon, 12.5% alc. This was a revelation to us as the usually good but not exceptional Caillou Blanc was breathtaking this year. Racey concentration,depth,premier cru Burgundy level of sophistication.Really good. Sadly tiny production so we haven't been able to buy very many cases.	Bottle 75 cl	1
2004	Gevrey-Chambertin, Mes Favorites, Domaine Alain Burguet -- Domain Alain Burguet -- France Pinot Noir, 13% alc. Alain Burguet makes this exceptional cuvée of Gevrey Chambertin from his favourite plots of old vines. It has exceptional density of flavour for a village wine and very good ageing potential. 2006	Vacqueyras, Les Christins, Domaine Perrin Père et Fils -- Perrin & Fils -- France Southern Rhône Blend, 13.5% alc. From the clay plateau of Vacqueyras, a powerfully structured wine, made from three quarters Grenache and one quarter Syrah. Liquorice and sousbois on the nose, then Mediterranean warmth and sumptuous black fruit. (Simon Field M.W. - Rhône Buyer)	Bottle 75 cl	1
2007	Ch. St Ferréol Viognier, Vin de Pays d'Oc -- Chateau Saint Ferreol -- France Viognier, 13% alc. A really exciting find; a Southern French Viognier that tastes just like a Condrieu, without, merci à Dieu, the Condrieu price tag. Made in the enclave of Nizas, close to Montpellier and fermented and matured in a significant majority of oak, this is a terrific wine. The Viognier roll-call of dried apricot, peach kernel and honeysuckle is present and correct. The texture is suitably rich and hedonistic, but there is an impressive mineral grip at the back which effortlessly propels the wine into the highest quality echelons. 2003	Barbaresco,'Vigna Erte', Bricco di Neive, Cigliuti -- Cigliuti -- Italy Nebbiolo, 14% alc. "Aged only in large slavonian botte, this fine wine benefited from the hot summer to give extremely luscious and elegant, super-ripe strawberry and dried fruit flavours. 2008	Ribolla Gialla DOC, Colli Orientali del Friuli, Canus -- Canus -- Italy Ribolla Gialla, 12.5% alc. Less well-known even than (Tocai) Friulano, Friuli's Ribolla Gialla is a mysterious cove; the nose a rich if reserved cocktail of herbal citrus fruit. The medium bodied palate is relatively austere, characterised by thick-skinned lemon peel and of stony minerality, of significant power, especially on the dry finish. 2004	Poeira, Jorge Moreira, Douro -- Quinta De La Rosa -- Portugal Other Varieties, 14.5% alc. "Touriga Nacional, Tinto Roriz and Touriga Francesca share the honours in this early and entirely successful outing for Jorge Moreira's single vineyard Douro table wine. 2004 was a temperate vintage; the wine as a result is drinking well now and will hold for three to five years. 2006	M.O.de Olivara Toro -- Marques de Olivara -- Spain Tempranillo/Tinto Fino, 14.9% alc. An award-winning new wine from the westerly Denominacion of Toro; where the Duero elides with the Douro, Spain cedes to Portugal and more and more of the Quintas occupy themselves with the production of fortified wine. The presence of Vega Sicilia at the Pintia Bodega has re-awakened interest in the wines of this area, an area where one has to temper the wilder excesses of the August sun by the means of careful canopy management. The dark brooding Tinto de Toro, as Tempranillo is known in these parts, is made at Olivara under the watchful eye of the famous winemaker Pascal Chatonnet. The best French oak is used for an extensive ageing regime which allows the savoury almost meaty character of the wine to soften somewhat and to emphasise the underlying black fruit quality, which is extremely impressive. 2006	Ridge Geyserville, Alexander Valley Sonoma County, California -- Ridge -- United States Zinfandel, 14.6% alc. Ridge's Paul Draper is a past world winemaker of the year. This Zinfandel/Carignan/Petite Syrah.Mataro blend will live for a decade and yet it already shows its incredible charm and depth of fruit. Buy a vinous work of art today. 2006	Stoney Rise Chardonnay, Tasmania (Stelvin) -- Stoney Rise, Tasmania -- Australia Chardonnay, 13% alc. As you might expect from this cooler Australian outpost, where irrigation is definitely not required, the nose is beautifully fresh with comice pear and an almost Chablis-esque stoniness; the palate’s juicy, leesy, moreishly elegant with delicate stony citrus flavours. A terrific wine which balances pure fruit & minerality perfectly, confidently sealed with a screwcap. Excellent with smoked haddock. (David Berry Green-BBR Buyer)	Bottle 75 cl	1
2006	Alana Estate Pinot Noir, Martinborough, New Zealand -- Alana Estate -- New Zealand Pinot Noir, 13% alc. The Martinborough terraces are the origins of the first great New Zealand Pinot Noirs, and they remain the focal point for Burundian styles, like this fine pinot, whose stylish red-berry fruit perfume and delicate oak spice with a seamlessly pure, strawberry flavour, opulence and silky texture make it a seductively rich, yet subtle Marlborough red. (Anthony Rose – 50 Best Wines - The Independent – 13 Dec 08) Chris 'Hopper' Archer has marked his inaugural vintage at this Martinborough estate with a tiny quantity (71 dozen bottled) of this excellent Pinot Noir, a selection of the best fruit (from clones 667, 777 and Abel) from their silty, calcareous gravel Terrace terroir. The result is a wine which shows both sensuality as well as breed. Dare I say it but the nose hints at Musigny, such is its heady smoky violet scent while the focussed palate is both suave and finely poised. 2006	Morgon, La Voûte St Vincent, Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes -- Domaine Louis Claude Desvignes -- France Gamay, 13% alc. Louis-Claude Desvignes is a 7th generation vigneron currently producing some of the finest Morgon in the appellation. His Voûte St Vincent cuvée comes from various plots located on slightly different soils throughout the village, being largely a mix of decomposed granite, schist and clay. Louis-Claude has handed over the day-to-day running of the property to his charming daughter Claude Emmanuelle, now assisted by her brother Louis-Benoît in the vines. They tend to harvest later than other vignerons in the appellation with the intention of obtaining fruit of optimal ripeness. The wine is vinified by the traditional cru Beaujolais method with a grille to keep the cap submerged. Recently, the fermentation has been longer and more controlled than in the past, in order to extract the deep colour and depth of fruit that are the hallmarks of these wines.
