This six-week course focuses on the world’s classic wine regions, showing
the breadth of wine styles that each has to offer. Each session links wine
tasting to climate, soil, grape variety and winemaking techniques, looking at
the special characteristics of each region and highlighting leading producers.
We examine the philosophy behind old and new European and New World styles as
well as the concepts of quality and value.
We also look at various systems of classification that exist and provide assistance for navigating wine lists. Finally, we cover how wine matures and how vintages differ across the hemispheres. This course would be suitable for those who have completed the Introductory Course or who already have some basic wine knowledge. A selection of nuts, olives and cheeses will be served at each session.
Session 1 Burgundy
Session 2 Loire, Champagne
Session 3 Germany, Alsace, Rhône
Session 4 Spain, Italy
Session 5 Bordeaux
Session 6 New World
