1999 White, drink-or-keep
Moët & Chandon, Dom Pérignon -- Dom Pérignon -- France
Champagne Blend, 12% alc.
"From the ripe and approachable 1999 vintage, this has typically encyclopaedic notes of angelica, hazelnut, cinnamon and tobacco; how it manages to do all this is a well-guarded mystery, courtesy of the Chef Des Caves, Richard Jeffroy. Exotic elements are harnessed by hints of peppery spice with notes of brioche, peach and quince all vying for attention. A powerful wine and one that will continue to develop over the next decade. but which can also be enjoyed now. So don your DJ and sup from a Champagne saucer, Bond style"
Simon Field MW (Champagne Buyer)

Ch. Lynch Bages, Pauillac -- Château Lynch Bages -- France
Cab.Sauvignon Blend, 13% alc.
Since the early 1980s Ch. Lynch Bages, under the charismatic guidance of Jean-Michel Cazes, has consistently performed far above its designated 1855 classification. The 2001 is no exception. Tasting a line up of 2001 Pauillacs at the Union des Grands Crus tasting, Lynch-Bages shone out like a beacon. A very generous, powerful nose of ripe blackcurrants, liquorice, cedar and toasted new oak is complemented by a dense, brooding, muscular palate with ripe black fruits, minerals and a gloriously long finish. This quintessential Pauillac should be a definite for any serious cellar. This is as good as the their magnificent 1996.

Ch. l'Evangile, Pomerol -- Château L'Evangile -- France
Cab.Sauvignon Blend, 13.5% alc.
"A rich, saturated ruby/purple color is accompanied by sweet, perfumed notes of mocha, black raspberries, and cassis. As the wine is swirled, licorice aromas also emerge. A blend of 79% Merlot and 21% Cabernet Franc, this deep ruby/purple-colored 2001 reveals a fine texture as well as a seductive personality. Its low acidity and sweet tannin ensure that it will be enjoyable young, yet it possesses the depth and concentration to evolve for 15-18 years. Anticipated maturity: 2004-2017." Chassagne-Montrachet, La Boudriotte , 1er Cru, Dme Bruno Colin -- Dme Bruno Colin -- France
Chardonnay, 13.5% alc.
"A delicately perfumed wine with a fragrant touch of orange blossom, from this leading Chassagne premier cru, always noted for its stylishness. The palate is fleshy as well as mineral, with a perfectly judged finish."

Puligny-Montrachet, Les Folatières, 1er Cru, Domaine Alain Chavy -- A Chavy -- France
Chardonnay, 13.5% alc.
You could say that Puligny runs through Alain Chavy’s veins; his family has been in the village for nearly 200 years and he owns a number of its Premier Cru vineyards. Few producers are as successful as Alain at making stylish, characterful wines which are truly representative of the appellation.
2006 was an excellent white wine vintage in Burgundy, particularly so for Alain’s Les Folatières, which is consistently one of his best Premiers Crus. This gorgeous wine is a model of finesse and elegance with delicious, fresh citrus fruit merging beautifully with subtle oak and the ever-present minerality of the terroir; a benchmark Puligny-Montrachet.
