2004 Ch. L'Eglise Clinet, Pomerol

Ch. L'Eglise Clinet, Pomerol
This property's château and vineyard are believed to be the oldest in Pomerol and have an enviable location adjacent to the ancient cemetery. Proprietor Philippe Castéja has continued to make improvements here and his 2004 is a truly great wine. With its round, ripe plum and cherry personality enhanced by hints of vanilla and raspberries, this is beautifully balanced with a long, creamy finish.Château L'Eglise-Clinet

Ch. L'Eglise Clinet, Pomerol

Tasted single blind at FINE magazine’s vertical in Düsseldorf. This has a very ripe bouquet with macerated dark cherries, blackcurrant jam, boysenberry and a touch of graphite. Much more masculine and perhaps slightly broody compared to the first, but it opens nicely in the glass. The palate is full-bodied with very intense dark cherry, cassis and blueberry fruit interlaced with citrus lemon. Very well balanced, very fine mineralité showing through on the finish but so backward at the moment. I love the tension here though.
