2010 Toolangi Vineyards, Pinot Noir, Victoria, Australia

Toolangi Vineyards, Pinot Noir, Victoria, Australia
The entry –level Pinot Noir from Garry and Julie Hounsell’s Toolangi Estate in Victoria. The bouquet displays a very pure expression of summer fruits, with black cherries and raspberries to the fore and with just a hint of spicy smokiness. On the palate there is a soft, silky texture with a pleasing, fresh acidity at the finish to round it all off. The wine is medium-bodied and is best enjoyed young with the emphasis on the aromatic fruits. Australia can only produce good Pinot Noir in cool-climate zones, and this is one of the best examples we have found. Serve lightly cooled at 14-15 degrees.
(Alun Griffiths MW, BBR Buyer)

Toolangi Winery is the brainchild of Garry and Julie Hounsell; they planted their vineyard in Victoria’s Yarra Valley in 1995 and produced their first wine vintage in 2000. Their aim has been to produce wines of great complexity and subtlety, rather than power and muscle.

The 2010 Pinot Noir is hand-picked, matured on lees and fermented in a mixtured of new and old French oak barriques. On the nose, it offers sutbtle floral, cherry and sspice fragrances. The palate is juicy, agreeably soft, balanced and even, delivering crunchy, upbeat, early-drinking enjoyment.Toolangi Vineyards
