2010 Cornas, Les Chaillots, Domaine Thierry Allemand

Cornas, Les Chaillots, Domaine Thierry Allemand
From the north-west of the village where there is a little more clay in the soil, these relatively (at a mere 40 years of age) younger vines have yielded a charming and very complete wine, with floral violet-scented aromatics, an attractive black fruit pepper-laden palate and silky rounded tannins.
Simon Field MW, BBR Buyer, February 2012

Words such as ‘enigmatic’ and ‘maverick’ find common currency when Thierry Allemand is the subject of conversation. Somewhat misanthropic by nature, he clearly relishes the panoramic views from his remote winery, located at an altitude of 400 metres on the St Romain-de-Lerps plateau. His wine-making is highly individual, idiosyncratic perhaps, with high densities and often late harvests informing a style which can be pleasingly pragmatic.
