2010 Côtes du Rhône Rouge, Domaine Chaume Arnaud

Cotes du Rhone Rouge, Domaine Chaume Arnaud
This Côtes-du-Rhône wine is dominated by Grenache, with the balancing 30% shared between Syrah and Cinsault. Vinsobres, despite its seemingly oxymoronic name, is on a high, both literally and metaphorically, the altitude of the vines informing the fresh and complex style of the wines, their quality having led Vinsobres to stand-alone Appellation status in 2007.

Chaume Arnaud's Philippe and Valérie are charming and gifted ambassadors; their wines continue to impress with the balance between sweet Grenache red berried fruit and refreshing acidity all very skilfully entwined. In 2009 they completed the conversion of their vineyards to biodynamic viticulture, and are now awaiting full accreditation. The 2010 is generous of colour with forward fruity aromas and a confident black fruit-dominated palate, lively acidity and a spicy backdrop.
