2008 Domaine Drouhin, Pinot Noir, Cuvée Laurène, Oregon

Domaine Drouhin, Pinot Noir, Cuvee Laurene, Oregon
One of Oregon’s truly stellar Pinot Noirs, Cuvée Laurène, named after Veronique Drouhin’s eldest daughter, represents the cream of the estate’s Pinot Noir wines. The juice is separated into two lots at the pressing stage, with half being fermented in stainless steel tanks, the other half in French oak barrels, never more than 20% new. During the maturation period Veronique selects the best barrels to go into the Laurène blend.

Although delicious already this really is a wine which evolves slowly and merits extended ageing. If you cannot wait a few years then do give the wine an hour in a decanter to allow the fruit flavours to emerge. Eventually deep aromas of black cherry, raspberry and blackcurrant will appear, while on the palate the silky texture and crisp acidity for which Pinot Noir is renowned will come to the fore. Best at 5 years of age or more, and brilliant with game, guinea fowl or beef.
