2010 Dolcetto d'Alba, Manuel Marinacci, Piedmont

Dolcetto d'Alba, Manuel Marinacci, Piedmont
One's struck by the wine's bright vibrant purple colour; a wine that's synonymous with Piemontese lunches, thanks to its refreshingly light body & alcohol. The nose sings of spring flowers, of petals, of the purple (and white) violets that have emerged following the snow.

The wine's natural florality has been enhanced in 2010 by a cooler August, so capturing the aromas. As ever the secret behind this exalted Dolcetto would appear to lie in the fruit: Manuel's plot lies on the 'confino'/boundary with one of the Langhe's 'hot' spots for Dolcetto, the 'Madonna di Como' zone. Crunchy cool and immensely drinkable, I'd advise serving it at cellar temperature along with a plate of cold meats or quiche. Drinking now.
