2008 Barbaresco, Manuel Marinacci, San Rocco Seno d'Elvio

Barbaresco, Manuel Marinacci, San Rocco Seno d'Elvio
Bottled in the July 2011 after two years ageing in large slavonian oak botte, stylistically Manuel sees the 2008, his fourth Barbaresco vintage as lying somewhere between 2006 & 2007. It's certainly got the 2006's more classic personality and quality, while being as accessible as the 2007.

The nose is a compote of red/black fruit, with (black) liquorice notes suggesting a longer hang-time. To taste, it is fleshy, pulpy, generous, suave, fuller, crunchier and brambly black than the 'sweet' red 2007. Delicious now along with lamb but will improve. This is a fine follow-up to 2007; bravo Manuel!
