Description

Brought to us by wine makers Álvaro Espinoza and Juan Carlos Faúndez of Geo renown who share the goal of maximising Chile’s cool climate varieties, this chardonnay is a pleasing blend of old and new world styles.  There is a ripeness of fruit associated with the pioneering spirit of the frontier and it displays a steely restraint, reminiscent of fruit from the clay and limestone schist of Bourgogne.

The nose is dominated by tropical fruit, mango, candied pineapple and a hint of spicy cinnamon integrating nicely. The palate is crisp and clean, like biting into an apple, which gives the wine an unexpected vibrancy and vivaciousness. This is an exciting and affordable wine of considerable promise.

About this WINE

Vina Quintay

Vina Quintay

Quintay is situated in the valleys of Casablanca and Leyda, which are regarded as Chile’s quintessential cool climate regions for wines of elegance, and testament to its obvious winemaking potential. The vineyards of Quintay are significantly influenced by the cold Humbolt current, which runs down the length of Chile, where cool air is pulled in by the warmer central valley, thus providing a natural coolness throughout the growing season. Their wines focus on viticulture principles in order to reflect commitment to winemaking as an expression of terrior.

Chardonnay

Chardonnay

Chardonnay is often seen as the king of white wine grapes and one of the most widely planted in the world It is suited to a wide variety of soils, though it excels in soils with a high limestone content as found in Champagne, Chablis, and the Côte D`Or.

Burgundy is Chardonnay's spiritual home and the best White Burgundies are dry, rich, honeyed wines with marvellous poise, elegance and balance. They are unquestionably the finest dry white wines in the world. Chardonnay plays a crucial role in the Champagne blend, providing structure and finesse, and is the sole grape in Blanc de Blancs.

It is quantitatively important in California and Australia, is widely planted in Chile and South Africa, and is the second most widely planted grape in New Zealand. In warm climates Chardonnay has a tendency to develop very high sugar levels during the final stages of ripening and this can occur at the expense of acidity. Late picking is a common problem and can result in blowsy and flabby wines that lack structure and definition.

Recently in the New World, we have seen a move towards more elegant, better- balanced and less oak-driven Chardonnays, and this is to be welcomed.
