M. Ournac, with considerable skill, has coaxed all the good points from this temperamental variety, which he grows in the foothills of the Montagne Noir just to the east of the walled city of Carcassonne.

With a classic nose of honeysuckle and apricot, this is the perfect aperitif wine, the 2011 perhaps a little more restrained than its immediate forebears, but none the worse for that! A delicious and famously well-priced Viognier; perfect as an aperitif and with al fresco summer fare.
