2011 Domaine de Triennes, Rosé, Coteaux Varois, Southern France

Domaine de Triennes, Rose, Coteaux Varois, Southern France
High up in the hills of the Var region of Provence, Domaine de Triennes was founded in 1990 by Jacques Seysses of Domaine Dujac along with Aubert de Villaine of Domaine de la Romanée-Conti….quite an impressive pedigree in other words!. The origin of the name comes from the triennia, the festivities held in honour of Bacchus, which took place every three years in Roman times.

The Rosé is a blend of old vine Cinsault, Syrah and Merlot. Skin contact is brief, the aspiration here being a marriage of elegance and gentle fruit. From the onion-skin colouring to the subtle rosehip and wild strawberry flavours, it is clear that this has been achieved with great success. The 2011 has balance, elegance and undoubted intimations of joie de vivre. All in all the wine is persuasive enough to travel far from the rarefied atmosphere of the Côte d’Azur and still to be a big hit!
